Summer 2003: Issue 1

Praises and Thanks:

God has given me so many reasons to be grateful. He has given us good health and has kept us safe as we work to share the gospel with professionals and businessmen.

On May 08/2003 an elephant from the circus was able to escape from his cage and walk along the highway in Manila amidst the heavy traffic. It turned into a small street near my house and a chain on its foot got tangled around a cement post causing it to be trapped in the middle of the road.

As animal lovers, the Filipinos gave the elephant different kinds of fruits including bananas and coconuts. This event gave us a unique opportunity to share Christ to the crowd that gathered around the elephant, proving once again that God can work in any situation.

Ministry Corner:

On the following morning (I do this every morning except Sunday) I went to the coffee shop at the corner three blocks from my house to minister to professionals and

businessmen who stop there for breakfast before reporting to the office.

The many topics we discuss serve as a springboard for me to talk about faith in God.

It just so happens that this morning’s popular topic was, of course, the elephant. Someone helped me by mentioning how amazing it was that God created an elephant which consumes one hundred kilos of bananas a day.

That opened the way for me to share about God and I began by asking, "How does God create human beings?" "Do you think that God loves us so much?"

Questions such as these do not cause the businessmen to feel threatened, but serves to bring them a step closer to faith in God. I believe that every event that happens around me is an opportunity for me to witness and I praise God for that. There is much work to be done for us to reach the 15 million people who live in Manila.

Items for Prayer:

May 29 Our daughter Kristine Pham will be graduating from Faith Academy Manila. She has been accepted at Samford University for the fall semester of 2003. Pray that God will give her comfort as she says good-bye to her many friends in the Philippines.

May 30 There is a business luncheon in Gloria Maris Restaurant at St. Lucia Mall. Pray that many will attend and have an opportunity to hear the gospel and accept him.

June 15 We are flying to the states for a short stateside assignment. May God keep us healthy and free from SARS. Pray that we will meet many people who are willing to volunteer to come to Manila to win professionals for Christ.
