Typhoons: The Aftermath
Jan 12, 2006 - Dec is also a month of strong wind and big wave. The one boat faithfully takes me to Masbate. This time I go to a remote village, Recodo in Cawayan, Masbate. I arrive in Cawayan a little early and wait for Mr. and Mrs. Efren to come and take me to their village. Their house has no electricity and running water. [more]

That is My Prayer Life
Nov 10, 2006 - Do I pray when I receive a text message? When I meet a friend for lunch? When a group gathers together? Do I ask God to guard what I say and make me sensitive to his voice of warning, of control? Do I pray to be kind instead of cruel, gentle instead of harsh, build up instead of tearing down? That is my prayer life. [more]

Tuesday April 19, 2005 - Pray for deep spiritual darkness in the town of San Antonio, Quezon where fellow missionary Long P is finding strong resistance to the gospel. A man seen in a recent medical clinic we conducted there had complications after the teatment. Someone is warning everyone to stop taking the medicines distributed at the clinic, saying they are fake. The people have stopped taking the medicines and of course are not getting well.

Saturday Dec 27, 2003 - Mary was so sweet until the last minute of her life at home. God answered your and our prayers when she got up at midnight on Friday and told me that she was healed and felt no pain in her abdomen even though she had vomited a lot of fluids every half hour. Her body was thin and her strength was diminishing. At 8 am Saturday, I gave her a shower and she enjoyed the warm water and the cleanliness of being able to take a shower. I accompanied her to her bed and she closed her eyes peacefully. She was too weak to talk or make any movement with her hand. I called the nurse at 9 am and she came and checked Mary and informed us that it will not be long. I asked Mary to give me a sign when she saw Jesus. So at 3:22 pm She opened her eyes wide and looked at Jesus and then glanced at me. Then she closed her eyes and her heart slowly came to a stop at 3:23. Tell me what do you think she saw just before her last breath of life?

Wednesday Oct 15, 2003 - As early as six o'clock in the morning, I drove Mary to the University Hospital for her third infusion of chemotherapy. She received a blood test at seven in the morning, and afterwards, we waited in the waiting room to be called. At eight thirty, the nurse called her in to inform us of the blood test results. Due to the extended time (3 hours), the nurse told Mary to lie in a bed instead of sitting in a chair, which would be the normal procedure for a shorter time of infusion. The needle made a "phap" sound as it entered into the port of her chest; it was as if someone had thrown a dart into a wooden board. First, they put in IV water, then the medicine for her nausea. Next, they proceeded to put one kind of chemical to treat the cancer into her body. Afterwards, they put in another half liter of a different type of chemical for cancer treatment. Finally they inoculated her with a flu shot and gave her red blood cell a boost under her skin. Unlike our previous visits, Mary asked me to stay near her the whole time. Praise God that we are finally home and Mary has a chance to rest in her bed. Then the phone calls begin to come in. Thank you so much for all your concerns and prayers during this difficult time. We hope that you will continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

July 24, 2003 - Dr. Opossa from Manila Doctors confirmed and Dr. Arnoletti from University Hospital reconfirmed that my wife has Gall bladder cancer which is a very rare case in Manila as well as in Birmingham. The doctors said out of their experience that they did not see any GB cancer for the last ten years. Now we wait for Dr. Jesus to heal. Until then we do not know what to say. -- Pham Long & Mary

July 8, 2003 - After the gall bladder operation the pathologist confirmed that Mary had gall bladder cancer. The operation successfully removed the gall bladder. After a week Mary was able to walk slowly and made a trip to the US. We arrived in Birmingham, AL, on June 23. We went to the Kirlin Clinic cancer department on June the 24 and met the whole team of surgeons and oncologists. Kirlin Clinic is famous for assessing the situation using the team approach. After looking at the sample of the gall bladder they decided for Mary to have a CT scan. The CT scan showed two spots on the liver. To be sure that the cancer will not spread they had Mary take a PET scan which lasted three hours. They did not see the cancer spreading so they decided at this time to have a surgery to remove and clean out any residue of the cancer. Please pray for God to have mercy on us all. Postal Surgery will take place July 23, 20003.

Mary, my wife will be going to the Hospital for gallstones operation. They do not have laparoscopy which is a laser operation so we have to undergo cholecystectomy which is a small cut on the upper abdomen and it will take five days hospitalization. Please pray for quick recovery. We do not have the best hospital or the best doctor but we do have the best Physician Jesus with us.
